Oscar Piastri had to skip a season of racing after winning the Formula 2 championship in 2021, but McLaren signed him for Formula 1 and he made a remarkable rookie debut last season. He achieved multiple podium finishes and even won a sprint race in Qatar, showcasing his potential to help McLaren move up the field in 2024 alongside Lando Norris. Over the first 14 races of the season, Piastri has been consistent, securing top six starts in qualifying and showing strong race pace.
While Piastri faced some challenges early in the season, such as not matching Norris’ pace and encountering misfortune in races like Miami and Imola, he eventually found his form. He narrowly missed out on a victory in Austria, had a solid performance in Hungary to claim his first grand prix win, and showed impressive pace in Spa to finish on the podium.
