Larry Bird and Magic Johnson rivalry they resounded. Arenas were filling up, viewerships were peaking, and the talk around women’s basketball saw unrivaled interest. The Lakers legend himself was reminded of the good old days when the NBA had started picking up. “They dominated in college…and then they brought it over to the WNBA, just like we brought it to the NBA,” he said of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

But where new heights and milestones were to be celebrated, hatred and made-up narratives have marred the two stars. Despite repeatedly dismissing any negative dynamic between them, a new rumor has emerged on the internet. But this time, did the factors peak enough to force a lawsuit?

Debunking the viral claim!

If you’ve been on Twitter (now X) or Facebook recently, you might have seen posts claiming that Clark filed a lawsuit against Reese, accusing her of harassment and defamation. One viral tweet by user Victor Bigham stated: “Caitlin Clark has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Angel Reese after Reese allegedly urged fans to attack and harass Clark at her private residence.”

Not just random social media posts—some websites like snoopes.com and luxury.carmagazine.tv have also run with the story, claiming to have detailed explanations.

According to these sources, the supposed lawsuit stemmed from long-standing tensions between Clark and Reese, dating back to their college days. They cite moments like Reese’s infamous ‘You Can’t See Me’ taunt in the 2023 NCAA Championship Game as part of the supposed motivation behind Clark taking legal action.

One article even claimed: “Clark’s legal team has now accused Reese of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, citing a series of interviews and social media posts following their NCAA championship face-off.”

The article also alleged that Clark was dealing with harassment from overzealous fans who had shown up at her home uninvited, and that her lawsuit was an attempt to hold Reese responsible. Sounds intense, right? There’s just one problem… While these claims have spread like wildfire, there’s absolutely no credible source confirming that Caitlin Clark has sued Angel Reese.

In fact, both Clark and Reese have remained silent on the matter—because there’s nothing to talk about. No major sports network has reported on it. No legal documents exist. It’s just another internet hoax. While fans love to exaggerate Clark and Reese’s rivalry, there is no actual battle between them. In reality, they respect each other and have publicly dismissed the idea of personal animosity.

When asked about their so-called feud, Clark kept it simple: “For us, it’s just a game of basketball. That’s what it is.” Even when the Chi-Town Barbie spoke about the criticism from CC’s fans crossing limits last year, she made it clear that she was not tying it to Clark. Reese was subjected to racism, followed home, and had received de-th threats among other extreme antics from the fans, but she knew the 2024 ROTY was standing for none of it.

“I don’t believe in her heart that she has hatred towards me and I’m sure she believes that I don’t have hatred towards her,” the Chicago Sky star asserted on her podcast. If anything, she’d love to team up with Clark one day. Evidently, the W stars have been loud about the mutual respect and aren’t falling for the narratives spewed up by outsiders. You shouldn’t too!

So, if Clark and Reese aren’t fueling the drama, why does it keep spreading? Well, their history.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have known to draw the line between fans and trolls

When Reese’s LSU team defeated Clark’s Iowa squad in the 2023 NCAA title game, the internet exploded—not just because of the game, but because of Reese’s “You Can’t See Me” celebration directed at Clark. The taunt became an instant viral moment. Some fans saw it as harmless trash talk, while others accused Reese of being unsportsmanlike. But the reality? Clark didn’t care. “I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all,” Clark told ESPN in April 2023. “LSU deserved to win, and they played a great game.” However, once the rivalry narrative took hold, it was impossible to shake.

One year later, Clark and Reese faced off again in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. This time, Clark’s Iowa team got revenge, eliminating Reese’s LSU squad. Once again, fans reignited the drama, but Reese made it clear that it was just competition.

“I don’t think people realize it’s not personal,” Reese told ESPN before the rematch. “Once we get out between those lines, if I see you walking down the street, it’s like, ‘Hey, girl, what’s up? Let’s hang out.’” Even after their transition to pro league, nothing changed.

Fast forward to June 1, 2024. Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky met for the first time in the WNBA. During the game, Reese’s teammate Chennedy Carter committed a hard foul on Clark, sending her to the floor. The moment went viral instantly. Adding fuel to the fire, Reese was seen clapping after the play. Some fans claimed she was celebrating Clark getting knocked down. But Reese shut that down quickly.“When we go out there and play super hard, compete every single day, it’s not personal. I promise you it’s based off of our stories and where we’ve come from.”

Despite the constant media scrutiny, both players have made it clear they respect each other and are focused on growing the game. So, Did Caitlin Clark Sue Angel Reese? The answer is a clear and resounding NO. This lawsuit is nothing more than an internet hoax fueled by misinformation, social media speculation, and fans who refuse to let go of the rivalry narrative. At the end of the day, their rivalry is about competition, not conflict.
