The 2024 WNBA Finals will continue on Sunday afternoon with Game 2 between the top-seeded New York Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx. After a stunning collapse in Game 1, the Liberty face what is essentially a must-win game. No team has ever come back from a 2-0 deficit since best-of-five series were introduced back in 2005.
For large stretches of Game 1, the Liberty looked dominant. They got off to a terrific start and built an 18-point lead in the first half, and then, after fending off a Lynx comeback, went back up by 15 late in the fourth. Even after blowing that lead, they could have won the game in regulation if Breanna Stewart had just made one more free throw with less than a second to play. Instead, they ended up losing in overtime.
We’re now set for a fascinating Game 2. Did the Lynx find something in the second half of Game 1, or did the Liberty let their foot off the gas? What sort of response will the Liberty have after an emotionally devastating defeat? How much of a confidence boost will the Lynx get from pulling off such an epic comeback? We’re about to find out the answer to all of those questions and more.
