Chebet in 5000m, Tamberi to open seasonROME (ITA): The 45th edition of the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, first European meeting of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League, is set for Friday. A likely fast women’s 5000m is expected to be the highlight of the evening. The Golden Gala will see Olympic Champion Beatrice Chebet face World Record holder Gudaf Tsegay, with home star Nadia Battocletti also competing. In total, eleven Olympic Champions are due to compete. Speaking at the pre-event press conference, Chebet said “I’m ready and prepared for a good performance, I will do my best to make a win. Everyone is running his own race, but I just want to run fast, it is my only target”. Home crowds are expected to be excited by Gianmarco Tamberi, who is opening his 2025 campaign, following a pressure from fans who demanded his appearance. Tamberi also confirmed he wants to continue in his career until 2028 Olympic Games, But that is not all, visitors will also see other stars and thrilling duels, especially in the women’s triple jump and discus, as well as in the men’s long jump with Furlani and shot put with Fabbri and Weir.

Triple Jump: Six top ranked in the field, Ricketts impressive in Doha ahead of LaFond; Pérez Hernández and Peleteiro in their summer opener.
Discus: High-quality field with top 7 in ranking competing, so Allman for her third 2025 DL victory against Feng, Elkasević, Pérez and van Klinken.
Men100m: All nine starters with sub-10 PBs, Kerley and Omanyala impressed most so far, Bromell is fastest this year.
400m: Can Nene improve his own WL? Hall and James in the field, Dobson opening the season.
1500m: R.Cheruiyot and Habz favourited, but wide field of challengers.
110m H: Double DL champion from China and world leader Tinch, also Roberts and Beard, Joseph in his 2025 international debut after being fast at home.

High Jump: High interest due to Tamberi’s first start since September’24, but Kerr and Woo are favourites, Doroshchuk and Sottile to open their summer campaign; (at least) outdoor WL in danger.
Long Jump: Tentoglou against home prodigy Furlani, Ehammer, McLeod and in-shape Adcock challenging.
Shot put: Crouser still missing, but 2-8 ranked competing, so Otterdahl and Campbell favourited, Kovacs expected to improve, and of course home heroes Fabbri and Weir, 22m for first time in 2025?
