The WNBA offseason is still fully in effect and there are still quite a few impact players available to sign.
One player available to be sign is guard Chennedy Carter. Carter is coming off a great season with the Chicago Sky, however teams are staying away after reports of her locker room behavior and off the court issues.
The Chicago Sky also aren’t the only team to have reported this. However, if we take these issues out of the equation, you are looking at a quality player who is free to sign.

Chennedy Carter ranked 13th in the WNBA for points per game, and her on court talent should make her a priority for teams.
Elite Offensive Talent
In the 2024 WNBA season, Carter had a phenomenal season, averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and shot 48.7% from the three.
Currently, Carter is having a tremendous season overseas in China, she has had 15 30+ point games, including two 50+ point games back to back. Carter is a top notch veteran guard in the league, she certainly can help carry a franchise or be the number one guard on a team.
With the second half of the 2024 WNBA season, Carter showed she is capable of being a number one scoring option but she can’t do it alone. Carter is a great finisher, with a lethal midrange, and she can space the floor pretty well.
WNBA Teams Need Her
There are multiple teams out there that could use a guard like Chennedy Carter. If you just take away the off the court problems, Carter has the talent that can change a franchise. For example, the Connecticut Sun are in rebuild mode and the Golden State Valkyries are a brand new team. Her “veteran” status could help with any of these younger teams, whether they are in a position to be competitive or not.
Team’s need to be able to see that even though Carter has these locker room issues, she is a top end player that is available to sign. Carter is still considered a young player with a lot of potential and room for growth.
Her defense may not be the best, but she has shown flashes of being able to lock down other guards and make big plays when needed. Carter has incredible athleticism, with her quickness being one of her strengths that helps her on both sides of the court.
Chennedy Carter needs to land with the right team to make both ends meet. The right coach as well could help with her locker room issues, but at the same time we have seen Carter show what she can do when she is on fire, and has a lot more potential that a team can get out of her.
The Locker Room Issue
Taking into consideration the problems that have been reported by teams regarding Carter, the right environment could help Carter. However, we must also consider that if a team does sign her, that team needs to already have a stable locker room.
The Sun are a good candidate to sign her because they need to rebuild, but her history with Marina Mabrey may not be the best environment, seeing as the Sun rejected Mabrey’s trade request. A team like the Golden State Valkyries where it’s brand new could be a good environment because once again, everything is brand new including everybody being teammates with one another.
Signing Chennedy Carter comes with a risk, however when you take into account how Carter is an explosive player on the court, the reward may be worth the risk. There are teams who are desperate for at least a solid guard, and right now Carter is the best guard out there in free agency.
