6-Banner Sunday: IU men’s and women’s basketball remain unbeaten

Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU basketball stories of the past week, plus take a look at how the other IU sports programs are doing.

IU Athletics continued its run of success across all sports this fall. Men’s basketball has fully transitioned to the modern game under new head coach Darian DeVries and is now 5-0 after wins against Incarnate Word and Lindenwood.

Also, women’s basketball won a pair of games and both programs inked several players to National Letters of Intent. As usual, we will conclude with weekly shows and a look at the rest of the Hoosier sports in action, which was highlighted by men’s soccer being selected to yet another high seed in the NCAA tournament.

Here is what is in this week’s edition:

• IU beats Incarnate Word to improve to 4-0• Hoosiers cruise to 20-point win against Lindenwood• Women’s basketball beats Florida State and Butler• Men’s and Women’s basketball sign class of 2026 recruits• Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows• Hoosier Roundup

Banner #1 – IU beats Incarnate Word to improve to 4-0

Under new IU head coach Darian DeVries and a brand new roster, Hoosier fans were promised a more modern offense that emphasizes the 3-point shot. While the attempts were there against Incarnate Word, the efficiency was not. The Hoosiers shot just 5-for-24 from distance.

While No. 25 Indiana built a nice lead, Incarnate Word came back late. In the end, IU held on for a 69-61 victory, improving to 4-0.

Afterwards, DeVries spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Ryan Corazza wrote  The Minute After and Film Session, Alex Bozich penned Five Takeaways, and Nick Rodecap put together a column about the outside shooting struggles.

Banner #2 – Hoosiers cruise to 20-point win against Lindenwood

Led by Wooden Award Candidate Tucker DeVries, IU continued to exceed preseason expectationsagainst Lindenwood. While it was closer than expected for a while, DeVries ensured it would be a comfortable win in the end with five 3-pointers and 25 points overall.

Despite significant roster turnover, DeVries and others were instrumental in getting IU to 5-0. The final was 73-53 as the team remained undefeated.

Afterwards, coach DeVries spoke, Inside the Hall had a photo gallery, Corazza wrote The Minute After and Film Session, Alex Bozich penned Five Takeaways, and Rodecap put together a column about a lack of energy at times.

The Hoosiers’ next contest is a big one. It is a matchup against a relatively strong Kansas State on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on FS1 in Assembly Hall.

Banner #3 – Women’s basketball beats Florida State and Butler

Women’s basketball also had a lot of roster turnover this offseason. However, they did return two program stalwarts in Lenee Beaumont and Shay Ciezki. They also picked up a big-time transfer in the portal at center in Zania Socka-Nguemen.

After some closer-than-expected calls in the first few games, Indiana picked up two solid wins this week against power-five competition. This came in the form of defeating Florida State on the road in a thriller and demolishing in-state rival Butler at Assembly Hall.

IU has more big tests this week in the Sunshine State over Thanksgiving. Up first will be a road game at Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, followed by a matchup against Gonzaga in the Coconut Hoops in Fort Myers, Florida, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Banner #4 – Men’s and Women’s basketball sign class of 2026 recruits

Both men’s and women’s basketball officially signed several highly ranked recruits recently. The men signed top-60 forward Vaughn Karvala and top-150 guard Prince-Alexander Moody.

The women, meanwhile, signed the best class in program history for 2026, which is ranked second in the Big Ten and sixth nationally. It features the two highest-ranked recruits in program history (Addy Nyemchek and GiGi Battle) in the top 35 nationally and a third in the top 65 (Ashlinn James). International prospect Zoe Jackson rounds out the class.

Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows

Inside the Hall’s Podcast on the Brink returned this week. On it, The Indianapolis Star’s Zach Osterman joined Alex Bozich for a discussion of IU basketball’s early results.

The Back Home Network has several new shows. As a result, it was on air many times this week as well with programming.

Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup

• Men’s soccer secured the six-seed in the NCAA tournament, guaranteeing themselves at least two home games as they attempt a run at the College Cup. The competition starts today at noon against St. Louis in Bill Armstrong Stadium.

• Football remained at No. 2 in the College Football Playoff during its bye week. They are also heavily promoting QB Fernando Mendoza as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

• Volleyball swept Maryland and Rutgers before falling to No. 1 Nebraska in Bloomington.

• Swimming and diving competed at the Ohio State Invitational, with the men winning the event and the women taking second place.

• Women’s soccer signed its 2026 recruiting class.

• Men’s tennis signed an elite recruit for the future. Also, a couple of its athletes had their NCAA individual championship runs come to an end.

• Finally, IU a record 92 percent of its student athletes.

Now go enjoy yourself a 6-Banner Sunday.
