Eight-time WNBA All-Star Seimone Augustus hardly needs an introduction. Augustus spent 15 seasons in the WNBA, the majority of which were with the Minnesota Lynx, after having played at LSU where she was a a two-time National Player of the Year, a four-time All-American and helped the team get to three back-to-back Final Fours. When it comes to women’s basketball, Augustus is one of the greatest of all time.
She’s also a coach at LSU, a role she began at the beginning of the 2024-25 season after having worked as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks since 2021, and she’s having a major impact on the young athletes she’s working with.

As Aneesah Morrow told SB Nation in an interview published on March 24, “What I’ve learned from coach is just be yourself. She teaches you to feel, and that’s a good thing. With the four position, you’re unique. A lot of fours are very unique. You can play with your back to the basket and you’re basically a mismatch nightmare — that’s what she always enforces. She encourages me to take my shots.”
Augustus is a good foil to Head Coach Kim Mulkey, who is known for her extremely energetic sideline antics. She’s often seen quietly taking notes, always prepared to offer input, and readily supporting the players as the come off the bench and return.
“Seimone is a quiet leader,” Mulkey said before kicking off LSU’s NCAA tournament this month. “I think her approach is, she’s going to do a lot of things one-on-one with the players. She doesn’t project loud, but I can tell you she has been really, really loud in things that she has said to them, whether it’s in a timeout or whether it is in the locker room or the film room. I have watched her say things, and I’m thinking — you needed to. That’s good to see.”
Augustus also represents a stronger athlete-to-coach pipeline, SB Nation noted. Other examples include Duke’s Kara Lawson and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley. Those who work with Augustus have no doubt that she will also become a head coach at some point in her career, it’s just a matter of when and for what team.
