Charles Leclerc secured pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix but wasn’t pleased with Ferrari’s performance over the weekend. Starting in P2 due to Max Verstappen’s grid penalty, Leclerc was realistic about his chances in the race.
Despite maintaining the lead momentarily, he was ultimately overtaken by Lewis Hamilton and couldn’t secure a podium until George Russell’s disqualification. Leclerc admitted that Ferrari simply wasn’t fast enough compared to their rivals.
In the closing stages of the race, he managed to keep Verstappen and Norris at bay to secure a position on the podium. However, he acknowledged that finishing behind Mercedes was not the desired outcome going into the summer break.
His teammate, Carlos Sainz, started from seventh place and attempted an alternative tyre strategy. Although he briefly led the race, he couldn’t maintain the pace of the front runners and finished behind Perez.
Sainz felt that Ferrari hadn’t closed the performance gap with their competitors during the weekend. He recognized the challenges faced in the first half of the season but remains optimistic about a stronger comeback after the break.
