We’re halfway through the WNBA season, with All-Star weekend done and the Olympics approaching quickly, and it’s clear that the 2024 rookie class has been a joy to watch. This group of rookies has shattered records both on and off the court, bringing in top college stars and making this year’s WNBA draft the most-watched ever. The All-Star voting numbers have skyrocketed, and viewership records have been broken. Every night, there’s a buzz on social media about the impressive performances from both rookies and veterans.

In the first half of the season, the Rookie of the Year race seems to be between two players who have been setting records left and right. The Fever’s Caitlin Clark and the Sky’s Angel Reese have had outstanding seasons, with Clark becoming the first WNBA rookie to achieve a triple-double and Reese breaking the record for consecutive double-doubles. Both rookies were also selected for the All-Star team and competed against Team USA during the All-Star weekend in Phoenix.

While Clark and Reese have been the talk of the town, there are other underrated rookies who have quietly made impressive starts to their WNBA careers. Regardless of who wins Rookie of the Year or where their teams end up, one thing is clear – this rookie class is filled with future stars in the making. Here are some under-the-radar rookies worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses:

Rickea Jackson – Los Angeles Sparks

Jackson, drafted fourth overall out of Tennessee, has quickly made a name for herself with the Sparks. She began the season on the bench but has worked her way into the starting lineup due to her impressive play. Jackson is shooting well and averaging double figures in points. She has shown steady improvement and is a bright spot for the Sparks’ future.

Aaliyah Edwards – Washington Mystics

Edwards, drafted sixth overall, has become a key player for the Mystics, stepping up when needed and proving herself on the court. Despite some injuries, she has shown poise and defensive prowess, earning the trust of her coach and becoming a reliable contributor to the team.

Honorable Mentions

While some rookies haven’t seen consistent minutes, they have made impactful contributions when called upon.

Sevgi Uzun – Dallas Wings

Uzun, a seasoned international player, has made the most of her opportunities with the Wings, showcasing her skills and potential despite limited playing time.
