The 3×3 campaign for Team USA did not meet expectations, with the women’s team settling for a bronze medal and the men’s team being eliminated in the pool stage. NBA Insider suggests that FIBA may be to blame for Team USA’s shortcomings, where Caitlin Clark could have made a difference for the women’s team.
On “The Pat McAfee Show,” ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst criticized FIBA’s rules for Team USA’s poor performance in the 3×3 circuit in Paris, advocating for Caitlin Clark’s inclusion to improve the team’s chances.
Windhorst argues that FIBA’s complex qualification process hinders top players like Clark from participating in 3×3, as it requires significant commitment. He notes that even players of Kyrie Irving’s caliber would struggle to meet the requirements set by FIBA.

FIBA’s regulations mandate that 2 out of 4 players must be in the Top 10 of the country’s talent pool, with the remaining 2 in the Top 50. Participation in previous 3×3 competitions is also required, which would disqualify Caitlin Clark.
“FIBA doesn’t prioritize ratings, but rather aims to grow the game globally, which may not align with the interests of US players,” Windhorst continues.
Despite her commitments in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark is gaining recognition for her outstanding rookie season.
