JACKSONVILLE – North Florida women’s soccer’s Zara Siassi received her third consecutive Preseason All-ASUN selection while the Ospreys were predicted to finish in sixth place in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday.
“Zara has been a key player in our backline since her freshman year and has consistently been one of the top defenders in our conference,” stated head coach Eric Faulconer. “She is the leader and the backbone of our program. I am thrilled that she is being recognized with this honor. Zara has represented our program, the athletic department, and the university with excellence. It’s great to see her talents acknowledged by the coaches in our league through this early season recognition.”
Siassi has not missed a game in her four seasons, starting 62 games and playing over 5,000 minutes. In the previous season, she played a leading role with 1,426 minutes on the field, completing the full 90 minutes in 12 out of 18 matches.
She was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 22 after achieving consecutive clean sheets. Siassi also contributed with an assist in a 3-0 win against Austin Peay on Sept. 24 and earned a spot in the All-ASUN Second Team.
North Florida garnered 92 votes in the poll, placing them in the sixth position. The top five spots were occupied by Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama, Central Arkansas, and Lipscomb, with FGCU being the favorite to clinch the first position.
The Ospreys will commence their season on August 15 in Coral Gables, Florida, facing Miami (FL) at 6 p.m.
