In a recent interview with the Boston Globe, Brad Stevens discussed the Boston Celtics’ efforts to retain most of the 2024 title-winning roster. Stevens emphasized the team’s goal of pushing themselves as far as possible while acknowledging potential concerns about the luxury tax and tax aprons.
“Our aim is to secure fair and satisfactory contract extensions for our players, allowing us to sustain our success for as long as possible,” Stevens explained. “We will address the financial and basketball implications of surpassing the second apron when the time comes, considering our team’s position and the viewpoints of our new investors.”
Stevens also revealed that the Celtics are likely to keep their final roster spot open, using it to address any weaknesses that may arise during the season.
“We will assess our team’s health and performance, and if any pressing issues arise before September, we may use the spot,” Stevens stated. “Currently, it seems unlikely. We are more focused on signing a few Exhibit 10 players who will likely join the Maine team. But things can always change.”
