During the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman suffered an injury when a ground ball took a bad hop and caught his middle finger on his right hand. He is now considered day-to-day.
Thankfully, x-rays came back negative, so Freeman may not have to miss much time. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register shared the news on social media.
The Dodgers recently welcomed back star player Mookie Betts from injury, so losing Freeman for an extended period would be a blow. Freeman has been a consistent presence in the lineup for Los Angeles despite the team dealing with various injuries throughout the season.
So far this season, Freeman has posted a batting average of .292 with 17 home runs and 71 RBIs. He has been a reliable hitter for Los Angeles amidst the team’s challenges.
The hope is that Freeman’s absence won’t be long, if at all. It’s likely that he will sit out the series finale against the Cardinals as a precautionary measure.
If the Dodgers want to pursue their goal of winning the World Series, they need Freeman to be healthy, so giving him time to fully recover may be the best decision.
The team is anticipating the return of Tommy Edman and Max Muncy in the upcoming week, providing much-needed reinforcements. Maintaining good health will be crucial for the Dodgers as the division race tightens.
