Angel Reese shared on social media the details of her season-ending injury – a small crack in a bone in her wrist that will necessitate surgery on Tuesday.
“I fell on my hand after making a shot and drawing a foul, landing on my hand which resulted in a small crack in my bone,” Reese said in a TikTok video posted late Sunday.
“The doctors gave me the option of not having surgery, but the risk was developing arthritis at 22 years old or the bone potentially shattering. So, I decided to go ahead with the surgery. They will be inserting a small screw to fix it. I didn’t want to take any chances,” she explained.
Reese will be in a hard cast for four weeks followed by a soft cast for two weeks.
She finished the season with impressive stats, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds, setting a WNBA record for the highest rebound average and rookie record for double-doubles.
Reese and Indiana rookie Caitlin Clark have been linked since their NCAA championship matchup two years ago, elevating WNBA ratings, attendance, and merchandise sales.
Despite the injury, Reese plans to continue training and engaging in off-court activities during her recovery period.
In response to pregnancy rumors circulating on social media, Reese clarified that she is not pregnant and emphasized that having children is not in her current plans.
Chicago Sky holds the final playoff spot, with one game ahead of Atlanta Dream. They will face Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
