Fernando Alonso expressed dissatisfaction with Aston Martin’s current Formula 1 performance, despite what he considered to be an impressive weekend of driving culminating in an 11th-place finish at the Italian Grand Prix.
Currently sitting fifth in the constructors’ championship, Aston Martin has only earned six points in the last four races, failing to score at Monza. Alonso believed he exceeded expectations in Italy, finishing just one second behind ninth-placed Alex Albon. He stressed the importance of patience with the team while highlighting the need for improvements.
Alonso stated, “We need to be patient and acknowledge that our main goal is 2026. However, we cannot settle for being behind teams like Williams, Haas, and Toro Rosso. We must raise our standards and strive for improvement.”

Alonso does not anticipate a significant improvement in competitiveness in Baku or Singapore, as he believes the current level of the car was evident in Italy.
He remarked, “Until we have a car upgrade, we will continue to struggle. Our performance in Monza, Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary was not up to par. Without new parts, I don’t foresee a major change in upcoming races.”
Despite rumors of Adrian Newey joining the team, Alonso downplayed the immediate impact one individual could have, emphasizing the importance of the team as a whole improving and preparing for 2025.
