Caitlin Clark calls out racist ‘trolls’ spreading hate toward WNBA players | WNBA
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

During her exit interview on Friday after her team’s playoff exit, WNBA star Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever spoke out against the online racism and hate that WNBA players face.

Clark expressed her disappointment, stating that no one in the league should have to endure hurtful, disrespectful, or hateful comments and threats. She emphasized that those responsible are not true fans, but rather trolls who do a disservice to the league, its players, and the organization.

Despite the negative experiences, Clark highlighted the importance of focusing on the positive aspects of the league. She praised the loyal fans who have supported the WNBA for years and encouraged uplifting the league in a positive light by celebrating the talented players, teams, and positive storylines.

WNBA players have been vocal about the rise in popularity of the league leading to increased harassment, with veterans calling for action to address the racist and sexist abuse they face.

The addition of Clark to the WNBA this year helped boost viewership and attendance, solidifying the league’s presence in mainstream sports culture. However, issues of racism and misogyny persist in the sports world.

The ongoing WNBA playoffs have brought the issue to the forefront, with players like Brittney Griner and Alyssa Thomas speaking out against racial abuse from fans.

In response to the incidents, the WNBA issued a statement condemning racist behavior and reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all players.

I asked #IndianaFever star Caitlin Clark about the racism and other hate #WNBA players have endured this season:

“Nobody in our league should be facing any sort of racism, hurtful, disrespectful, hateful comments and threats. Those aren’t fans. Those are trolls.” pic.twitter.com/3rgABBFMRZ
