Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado (Fenix-Deceuninck) claimed victory in Ardooie at Kermiscross on Thursday by riding solo to the finish line. Behind her, a trio of Belgian riders finished, with Marion Norbert Riberolle (Crelan-Corendon) taking second place, 28 seconds behind, and Alicia Franck (De Ceuster-Bouwpunt) securing third place, another 20 seconds later.
Julie Brouwers (Charles Liégeois Roastery CX), a 21-year-old rider, managed to sprint ahead of Dutch rider Denise Betsema (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) to clinch fourth place, with the two falling behind in the final laps and finishing more than a minute and a half behind the leaders.
The race started with a lead group of nine riders sticking together for the first half of the course until Alvarado pushed the pace and created a gap.
As the race progressed, Alvarado surged ahead and with three laps to go, she was in the lead, with Norbert Riberolle and Franck trying to catch up. However, Alvarado managed to maintain her lead and secure the victory.
Reflecting on her win, Alvarado commented to Het Nieuwsblad, “Today’s race was quite challenging. The muddy surface made it hard to recover, but I had to keep pushing to avoid coming to a standstill. I would have preferred better conditions for running, but you have to deal with what you have.”
