Josh Hart completed the preseason with only two points on six field goal attempts in a total of 90 minutes on the court, and Jalen Brunson believes it is his responsibility.
Throughout four preseason games, Hart appeared somewhat disoriented and admitted as much after the Knicks’ loss to the Wizards last Friday.
“I’m lost. I have no idea,” Hart stated regarding his role. “There’s a couple of days left until Boston. So, whether that involves getting into a rhythm with the starting unit or giving someone else a chance and altering my role to come off the bench and play with that unit.
“So, I’m currently trying to figure it out. I essentially have no clue. But we’ll see what unfolds in Boston.”
Brunson took Hart’s performances seriously and placed the blame on himself.
“I need to be a better leader and ensure he is prepared for game one,” Brunson shared with The Post on Sunday. “The responsibility is mine.”
The Knicks star even proposed the possibility of moving Hart to the second unit.
“I believe Josh is a very selfless individual. There are times he may think, ‘I need to involve someone else,'” Brunson commented. “However, from my perspective, we need to improve as teammates to ensure we are all aligned or providing each other with confidence. This initiative starts with me.”
Brunson refrained from giving his opinion on whether moving Hart to the bench would be beneficial, particularly considering his current form and the team’s offseason changes.
“That’s his viewpoint,” Brunson mentioned about his college comrade and co-host on a podcast.
