Sabrina shared a ‘loud’ FaceTime call with Steph after winning the WNBA Finals, as reported on NBC Sports Bay Area.
From screaming in a voice memo to screaming on FaceTime.
Sabrina Ionescu, the star of the New York Liberty, revealed to Complex Sports that she immediately responded to only one person after the championship victory: Steph Curry.
Ionescu described a celebratory FaceTime call with her close friend and mentor, Curry.
“I was able to FaceTime him for a few seconds. It was so loud that I could barely hear him,” Ionescu shared. “But we just started screaming and celebrating together.”
“That call meant a lot to me because of his mentorship and support throughout the season. He’s been cheering for me the whole time,” she added.
Curry had already expressed his excitement for Ionescu during the 2024 WNBA Finals. After she hit an iconic step-back shot in Game 3 to secure the win for the Liberty, Ionescu mentioned a passionate voice memo she received from Curry.
“I would say Steph left me a really funny voice memo of him just screaming into the phone,” Ionescu shared on ESPN’s “NBA Today” on Oct. 17. “We have a great relationship, and he’s been a big mentor to me, especially during these Finals.”
Despite some tough shooting performances towards the end of the Finals, Ionescu played a crucial role in leading the Liberty to their first-ever championship. She averaged 16.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 11 postseason games, helping her team sweep the Atlanta Dream, defeat the Las Vegas Aces, and overcome the Minnesota Lynx in a thrilling Finals series.
