The BIG EAST Conference unveiled the preseason women’s basketball awards just before Media Day at Madison Square Garden. Butler was predicted to finish eighth in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Caroline Strande from the team earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Strande was recognized as a Second Team All-BIG EAST player in the 2023-24 season after leading Butler in points (15.1), rebounds (7.1), and assists (2.8) per game. She was a consistent scorer for the team and was ranked 10th in scoring and ninth in rebounding in the conference.
The top three teams in the preseason poll were UConn, Creighton, and Providence. St. John’s and Georgetown followed closely, with the rest of the rankings including Villanova, Seton Hall, DePaul, Marquette, and Xavier.
UConn, Creighton, and Providence secured the top spots this year, with Georgetown showing improvement from the previous season. Paige Bueckers from UConn was named the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, and Sarah Strong from UConn was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
The Preseason All-BIG EAST Team includes Caroline Strande from Butler, along with players from UConn, Creighton, Providence, Georgetown, and St. John’s. Honorable mentions were also given to players from UConn, DePaul, and Seton Hall.
