A thrilling conclusion to the Cream of the Crop Top 30 All-Star Game and a well-executed Cream of the Crop Top 70 game marked the end of the 2024 Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp at the NBN Sports Academy (Wilmington, Del.). Co-MVP honors went to a skilled guard and a strong forward among the 240 campers.
The Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp typically wraps up the series of four Pangos Frosh/Soph camps held each fall and usually features the most size among the participants. This year, with 240 players from 15 states, along with the District of Columbia and Canada, was no exception. There were at least 16 players standing 6-foot-8 and taller, with 7-foot sophomore (2027) Theophilous Edema from Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, Mass.) creating a buzz at the East camp.
Initially, it seemed like Edema might be the scapegoat of the event after missing a crucial lay-up towards the end of regulation in the Cream of the Crop Top 30 All-Star Game. However, his tenacity and strong defensive display in overtime ultimately made him the hero of the game.
Despite the lack of shooting fouls in sudden death, Edema continued to shine defensively with multiple blocked shots and crucial rebounds, showcasing his determination. By the end of the game, Edema had amassed an impressive stat line of nine blocks, 11 rebounds, two steals, and two baskets.
