LA GRANDE, Ore. – Korin Baker and Carly Martin both scored 12 points to lead the Whitman College women’s basketball team to a 52-44 exhibition victory over Eastern Oregon on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams used the game as an exhibition to work on their lineups and strategies before the start of the regular season. Baker almost had a double-double with nine rebounds, and Briana Andrade contributed 11 points and seven rebounds from the bench.
Raquel Fehringer led Eastern Oregon with 10 points, while Kelsie Seigner added nine points and eight rebounds.
Both teams struggled with shooting, with Whitman shooting below 30%, including only 14% from three-point range.
After being down by a point in the first quarter, Whitman regained the lead in the second quarter. Christiane Carlisle hit back-to-back three-pointers to help Whitman take a four-point lead at halftime.
Whitman maintained their lead in the third quarter, with Martin and Baker leading the scoring. The Blues extended their lead to six points going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Whitman pulled away, with Martin hitting a crucial three-pointer to put them up by nine points. A late bucket by Andrade sealed the win for the Blues.
Whitman’s regular season begins next weekend with the Chuck Resler Tournament in Rochester, N.Y.
