Manchester United secured a late equalizer to earn a share of the points in their 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.
Former United striker Alessia Russo scored the opening goal just after the hour mark. However, United’s substitute Melvine Malard scored a scrappy goal to level the score.
Manchester United has now won three games and drawn two in their first five fixtures of the season.
First-half
Arsenal started the game confidently, moving the ball well and looking to dominate. Despite some attempts from Ella Toone, neither team could break the deadlock.
Russo, facing her former team, had a couple of close chances to score but was unable to find the back of the net. Arsenal grew into the game, but United’s defense held firm.
The match opened up in the first half, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert. The half ended with the score still tied at 0-0.
Second-half
Arsenal continued to press in the second half, keeping United on the back foot. Russo and Wälti came close to scoring, but United’s defense stood strong.
After making some substitutions around the 60th minute mark, United found an equalizer through Malard’s header, securing a valuable point.
Arsenal pushed hard in the final minutes, but United held on for the draw. Their next match is against Aston Villa at home.
