The Chicago Sky have hired Tyler Marsh to a multi-year deal as their new head coach, according to a league source confirmed by The Athletic. ESPN was the first to report the news.
Marsh has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach in Las Vegas, playing a key role in the Aces’ player development during their back-to-back title wins in 2022-23. He notably contributed to Jackie Young’s growth, turning her into the most improved player in 2022, as well as a multi-time All-Star and Olympian. Player development will be a crucial aspect of Marsh’s role in Chicago, where young players like Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Chennedy Carter form the core of the team.
After finishing two games out of the playoffs in 2024, Chicago parted ways with first-year coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Marsh, a debut head coach, previously worked as an assistant coach in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers and as a player development coach with the Toronto Raptors, including during their NBA Championship win in 2019. He has also served as an assistant in the G League.
Aces forward Alysha Clark bid farewell to Marsh on Twitter, expressing her confidence in the Sky’s choice. Reese also showed support for the hire with a simple “W” post on social media.
🥺🥺🥺 They have an amazing one. Gonna miss you @hoop4thought! Go be great! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 Still hope y’all don’t have hot water for the season 😭😭😭 https://t.co/vnikVjRXkY

Marsh is the second assistant coach to leave Becky Hammon’s Las Vegas staff this offseason, following Natalie Nakase’s move to Golden State as head coach.
Chicago is the third franchise to make a coaching change since the regular season ended, with several teams still seeking new leadership. The Sky have secured one of the top assistant coaches in the market as they continue their rebuild. The team recently began construction on a new practice facility.
