The Washington Commanders are typically sellers at the NFL trade deadline, but their 7-2 start this season has put them in buying mode.
With a weakness at cornerback, the Commanders traded multiple draft picks to the Saints for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore. The trade terms are as follows:
COMMANDERS RECEIVE — Marshon Lattimore, Saints’ 2025 fifth-round pick
SAINTS RECEIVE — Commanders’ 2025 third-round pick, Commanders’ 2025 fourth-round pick, Saints’ 2025 sixth-round pick (previously sent to Washington in the John Ridgeway trade)
This trade is challenging for the Eagles, who are behind the Commanders in the NFC East. Lattimore, 28, has performed well this season with a 69.1 passer rating when targeted.
The Eagles inadvertently helped the Commanders with this deal by trading a third-round pick to Washington for Jahan Dotson. Dotson has not had much impact for the Eagles, making the trade frustrating for them.
Although the Commanders did not use the pick from the Eagles, having an extra third-round pick likely influenced their decision to make the trade.
It’s important to note that Lattimore’s production has dipped in recent years, with fewer interceptions and forced fumbles. Injuries have also limited his playing time.
Lattimore is under contract until 2026, so the Eagles will have to face him this year and beyond, including in their upcoming game against the Commanders in Week 11.
