Dallas Wings hire Curt Miller as GM and executive vice president of basketball operations

The Dallas Wings have appointed Curt Miller as their new general manager and executive vice president of basketball operations on Friday.

Miller joins the Wings after serving as the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks for two years. Prior to that, he led the Connecticut Sun for seven years as a coach and six years as the GM.

“Curt Miller has a successful track record in building and leading WNBA teams and staff,” stated Dallas Wings President and CEO Greg Bibb. “His ability to create winning teams and his coaching experience will be invaluable as we strive for a WNBA Championship.”

Bibb previously held the GM role and relinquished it last month following the dismissal of coach Latricia Trammell. Miller’s initial task will be to appoint a new coach for the team amid five vacancies across the league in Washington, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Connecticut.

Miller, a two-time WNBA Coach of the Year, guided the Connecticut Sun to the playoffs six years in a row, with Finals appearances in 2019 and 2022.

“The potential of the Dallas Wings is unlimited,” Miller expressed. “With a new arena and practice facility incoming, a talented and community-focused roster, a promising draft position, and a devoted fanbase.”

Before his WNBA stint, Miller coached college basketball at Indiana and Bowling Green, joining the ranks of Van Chancellor and Lin Dunn as one of three coaches with over 250 college wins and 150 WNBA victories.

The Wings will participate in the WNBA draft lottery with at least the No. 3 pick secured through a trade with the Chicago Sky.

Aside from Miller’s appointment, Bibb also announced the promotions of Travis Charles and Jasmine Thomas in the front office.

Charles has been promoted to senior vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager after serving as vice president of basketball operations and assistant GM for 11 seasons, overseeing logistics, video, scouting, and travel.

Thomas has been promoted to vice president of basketball operations and assistant general manager, reuniting with Miller from their time in Connecticut.
