Rome, Ga. – It was yet another crucial day for NCAA Individual Championship berths as four (4) doubles teams (men’s and women’s main draw finalists) claimed their tickets to Waco through the ITA Conference Masters Championships.
In men’s doubles, the top two seeded teams of Jovanovic/Sanchez Martinez (Mississippi State) and Dominko/Nad (Notre Dame) who represent the ACC and SEC prevailed on the third day of competition to earn their NCAA berth and a berth into the ITA Conference Masters Championship Doubles Final.
For both teams, this berth put members of their team in prestigious company as both Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez have now qualified for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, while Dominko has also done the same after clinching his spot in the NCAA Singles Championship yesterday at the ITA Conference Masters Championships.
The remaining qualifying berth with come from the third-place match being held on Sunday in which Snyder/Visaya (Hawaii) will face off against Iturbe/Prata (UNC Charlotte) to claim the final spot into Waco.
In women’s doubles, the top-seeded team was upset on Saturday as Dada-Mascoll/Romanichen (App State) and Owen/Nugent (Xavier (OH)) advanced to the finals and were the two teams to clinch their spots into the NCAA Doubles Championships.
Battling it out in the third-place match will be the top-seeded team of Mohr/Webster (Vanderbilt) as well as Ferreros/Riva (Sacramento State). As the last weekend to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships, this match will be a winner-take-all with one team earning a berth to Waco and the other wrapping up their fall season.
Moving to singles it will be an ACC/WAC showdown in the men’s singles final as Sebastian Dominko (Notre Dame) will face off against Tiago Silva (Pacific) in the final. In the women’s singles final, Sofia Johnson (Old Dominion) will take on Gracie Epps (Oklahoma State) for the singles crown.
All of these athletes have already claimed their spots in the NCAA Individual Championships, so Sunday’s championship matches will be strictly for the titles of ITA Conference Masters Singles Champions.
