Jared McCain was the standout player with 30 points and six three-pointers in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 113-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday, despite missing Joel Embiid and Paul George. McCain was captured on camera declaring “I’m rookie of the year!” after sinking one of his three-point shots.
“I definitely said that,” McCain confirmed with a grin when questioned about his rookie of the year claim after the game. “I did. It was pretty obvious.
“It’s one of my season goals, but at that moment, it was my competitiveness getting the better of me. I have respect for all the other rookies in this league, but I have belief in myself, so some words slipped out in that moment.”
McCain is currently the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year title at -145, surpassing Dalton Knecht at +300.
