Joe Douglas did not seem too bothered after being terminated by the Jets on Tuesday.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, a close NFL executive indicated that the team’s former general manager felt a sense of “relief” after being let go by the Jets.
Just hours after losing his job, Douglas, who served as the Jets GM for over five seasons, was reportedly fishing on the Jersey Shore.
“It’s the happiest he’s sounded in a long time,” the executive informed Russini.
On the other hand, Robert Saleh seemed more affected by Douglas’ dismissal.
The former Jets head coach, who was let go in early October, was reported to be “very upset and emotional” upon hearing the news about Douglas. Saleh had assumed that the franchise would allow him to finish out the season.
Despite the surprise timing of the GM change, sources informed Russini that Douglas “knew change was coming.”
