Baseball Prospectus Update: Subscription Price Remaining the Same
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hello BP Readers,

We recently met with our ownership and wanted to provide you with an update on the state of things at Baseball Prospectus and our plans for the future.

To get straight to the core of it: Like a lot of places with our business model, our subscriptions have tailed off a bit over the last 1-2 seasons. It’s nothing dire at the moment, but also something we want to be aggressive about remedying. One solution available to us is to raise the price of our subscription—we’ve been told many times by readers that they’d pay more for the value that we deliver.

We’ve only ever raised rates once in our history—in 2017, from $40 to $45.95 for a premium subscription. I do not want to do that, though. Unless there is legitimately no other option, our preference is to keep our subscription as accessible and affordable as possible. It’s a challenge to keep our prices as static as they’ve been (apparently there’s this thing called inflation?), but a challenge worth pursuing.

To make it possible, we need to have a bigger subscriber base than we currently do. As big a footprint as we have in the industry, you might be surprised to learn we have somewhere a bit north of 6,000 subscribers, including our monthly supporters. We’re priced like we have double that figure. If we could add a thousand…or be still our hearts…two?…it would make a significant impact in our ability to retain the current price point and keep BP available to as many people as possible.

We’re so thankful to the many, many people who have offered up a testimonial on social media the last few days and weeks, promoting BP and telling people why it’s a great value. And we’re going to do my best to keep a subscription to Baseball Prospectus a no-brainer choice. We just need your help in getting the word out—let your family, your friends, your followers, or even just someone on the street in a baseball hat know how good the product is here. We’re confident that our work speaks for itself, but we need people to hear it, first.

Regardless of this situation, we have big things planned for 2025. That includes updates to our leaderboards and player cards, new series from our incredibly talented authors, new pitching metrics, and some fun and quality updates to PECOTA, among other things. Any additional subscriber helps us keep prices right where they are and see through more of our goals, faster, thanks to our ownership being so, so good about reinvesting everything back into the company.

We’ve got so much good stuff, and we just want to bring it to as many people as possible, at an affordable price. We’re so grateful to those of you already helping us do that, and thankful in advance to anyone willing to spread the word.

As a reminder, you can gift a subscription quite easily, or refer someone to our subscription page. And yes, BP360 is here!
