Petr Yan emerged victorious at UFC Macau by defeating Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event, then immediately called for a rematch with the current UFC Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili.
In a five-round decision, Yan dominated the ex-UFC flyweight champion, expressing his desire for a rematch with Dvalishvili to reclaim the bantamweight title during his post-fight interview.
“Before my fight, Merab mentioned that Deiveson Figueiredo was deserving of a title fight,” Yan stated. “Merab, what do you say now that I’ve defeated the top contender in my division? I challenge you to a rematch, let’s make it happen.”
Responding to Yan’s challenge, Dvalishvili commended the UFC Macau main event and Yan’s performance on social media, suggesting a potential rematch at UFC 313 in Las Vegas on March 8.
Merab Dvalishvili Open To Rematch With Petr Yan, Perhaps As Soon As UFC 313
Dvalishvili and Yan previously faced each other in the main event of UFC Las Vegas in March 2023, where Dvalishvili secured a unanimous decision victory.
Following that fight, Yan suffered multiple losses, including a controversial bantamweight championship loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259. However, in 2024, he bounced back with wins over Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo showcasing impressive striking and grappling skills.
After defeating Yan, Dvalishvili continued his winning streak by defeating Henry Cejudo and Sean O’Malley to capture the bantamweight title at UFC 306.
