The Amelia recently revealed that Brazilian race car driver Hélio Castroneves will be honored at the 2025 event, continuing the tradition of being known as “the racer’s concours.” Castroneves has an impressive racing background including:
- Winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2001, 2002, 2009, and 2021
- Capturing the 2020 IMSA championship with Acura Team Penske with 4 victories and 4 pole positions
- Being a minority partner and co-owner of Meyer Shank Racing
- Winning Season 5 of Dancing with the Stars in 2007
He was selected as the honoree for The Amelia in 2025 due to his commitment to excellence in racing and his unwavering competitive spirit, solidifying his status as one of the most successful drivers in IndyCar history.
Hagerty Vice Chairman, Concours Group, Matt Orendac stated, “Hélio Castroneves has had a transformative impact on IndyCar history and embodies the essence of automotive racing. His passion for racing is unparalleled, and we are excited to have him bring that enthusiasm to The Amelia. As The Amelia marks its 30th year in 2025, we are entering a new era while staying true to our roots as the racer’s concours. It is in this spirit of blending youth and heritage that we announce Mr. Castroneves as our honoree for 2025.”
Originally from São Paolo, Brazil, Castroneves currently resides in Florida and frequently visits Amelia Island. With a racing career that began at the age of 12, he has become a legendary figure in motorsport. His list of achievements includes his first win at the Indianapolis 500 in 2001 and his most recent victory in 2021, making him only the fourth driver to win the race four times.
Besides IndyCar, Castroneves has enjoyed success in sports car racing, notably winning the IMSA championship in 2020 with Acura Team Penske. In 2023, he transitioned into team ownership as a minority partner and co-owner of MSR.
In addition to his racing prowess, Castroneves showcased his competitive spirit by winning Dancing with the Stars in 2007.
Expressing his excitement for the event, Castroneves shared, “There is a clear connection between racing enthusiasts and concours aficionados, and The Amelia combines both of these passions that I deeply cherish. Being named the honoree during our 30th anniversary is a special privilege, and I am looking forward to celebrating with The Amelia community.”
