According to Mark Cuban, the NBA’s pettiness is the reason why he no longer attends Dallas’ road games.
The billionaire owner previously held the majority stake in the Mavs but sold 72.3 percent to the Adelson and Dumont families in December 2023, retaining just 27 percent ownership.
Cuban’s absence from the second row behind the bench during away games is attributed to the league enforcing certain rules.
“The NBA became really petty and told me I can no longer sit behind the bench,” Cuban shared with The Stein Line.
Despite expectations that he would continue overseeing basketball operations after selling the team, Mavs GM Nico Harrison began reporting directly to new owner Patrick Dumont by the time Dallas made it to the NBA Finals last season.
Reflecting on the adjustment, Cuban admitted, “It’s been a mix of emotions. There have been moments where I thought, ‘This is what needs to be done, but I’m no longer in charge.’ And then there have been times when I thought, ‘I’m glad I’m not in charge.'”
He further added, “The only time I feel any regret is when the NBA frustrates me. Maybe it would be different if we were losing, but things are going well. This isn’t specific to the Mavs. I can’t go into NBA meetings and call them out for being petty anymore.”
