The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a significant investment in acquiring Blake Snell, which could impact their ability to retain other players in the upcoming season.
Among the Dodgers’ free agents are Walker Buehler, Jack Flaherty, Teoscar Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw, and more.
The team is anticipated to have a 6-man rotation in the next season, with Shohei Ohtani being a part of it, although he may not be available to pitch initially. Other options include Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, and now Snell.
Considering the pitchers already under contract, it appears that re-signing Flaherty and Buehler may not be feasible. Flaherty, who earned $14 million last season and performed well in the postseason, is likely to move on.
Buehler, a two-time All-Star who was the Dodgers’ top pitcher in 2021, struggled with a 1-6 record and a 5.38 ERA last season as he returned from Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old has garnered interest from the New York Yankees.
The possibility of re-signing Teoscar Hernandez remains uncertain. Hernandez, who earned $23.5 million on a 1-year deal, posted a .272 batting average with an .840 OPS and hit three home runs in the postseason.
While adding Snell is a positive move for the Dodgers, it also means that some of their current players may not return in 2025.
