The 2024 NCAA DI volleyball tournament officially begins on Thursday, with 64 teams competing in the first and second rounds for postseason glory.
The goal for many teams is to reach the national championship match on December 22nd in Louisville, Kentucky.
Alongside the 31 conference champions who received automatic invites, the NCAA committee selected 33 teams in the selection show. The top 32 teams are seeded one through eight in their respective brackets and will only face non-conference opponents in the second round.
The ACC, Big Ten, and SEC lead with nine teams each, followed by the Big 12 with six squads selected.
The top four nationally ranked teams – Pitt, Louisville, Nebraska, and Penn State – are all the No. 1 seeds.
ACC powerhouses take aim at first national title
Pitt, the overall No. 1 seed, has been a dominant force in the ACC, despite the conference not producing a champion yet. The Panthers aim to break through after falling short in the national semifinals in recent years.
Louisville is also a strong contender in the ACC, having made the championship match in 2022. They hope to bounce back after a tough loss to Pitt last year.
Big Ten dynasties seek continued dominance
Penn State and Nebraska, two powerhouse teams in the Big Ten, aim for their eighth and sixth titles, respectively. They face tough competition in the tournament but have a history of success.
Both teams ended the regular season with strong records and will look to make their mark in the championship field.
