The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA’s newest franchise, will start building their roster through the expansion draft.
The Valkyries, the league’s 13th franchise, will kick off their season in 2025, starting in May. The first step commences today with the expansion draft. Golden State will pick players from the 12 other franchises that have not been protected or cored by those teams, but they can only select one player from each team.
Though it’s unlikely that the top stars will be available, some significant players – former starters or key role players – could be changing teams today.
USA TODAY Sports will provide live coverage of the WNBA expansion draft this afternoon and evening. Stay tuned for updates.
