Kansas City Chiefs reserve placekicker Matthew Wright has been named the AFC special teams player of the week for Week 14 of the 2024 NFL season by the NFL.
During Sunday’s 19-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Wright successfully made all five of his kicks, including the game-winning 31-yard field goal that clinched the win as time expired, securing Kansas City’s ninth straight AFC West title.
This season, Wright becomes the third Chiefs placekicker to make a game-winning field goal. Harrison Butker and Spencer Shrader also achieved this feat earlier in the season in Week 2 and Week 12 respectively.
It’s worth noting that no other team in NFL history has had three different placekickers make game-winning field goals in a single season.
In other AFC awards, Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals was named the AFC’s offensive player of the week, while Zach Seiler of the Miami Dolphins was named the AFC’s defensive player of the week.
