Travis Hunter had a phenomenal two-way season in college football this year, leading to his well-deserved win of the 2024 Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. This accomplishment is a significant one as the Heisman Trophy is the most prestigious individual honor in college football. Former LSU basketball star Angel Reese expressed her happiness for Hunter upon hearing the news.
“Why am I crying? I’m so happy for Travis man!!” Reese shared on her Twitter profile.
Colorado defensive back and wide receiver Travis Hunter was awarded the 2024 Heisman Trophy, recognizing him as the most outstanding player in college football.
Ashton Jeanty from Boise State finished in second place, with Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel following in third and fourth place. This marks the first time since 2020 that a non-quarterback has won the Heisman, with Alabama’s DeVonta Smith being the last wide receiver to win the award.
Both Hunter and Jeanty emerged as favorites for the award towards the end of the season, with Hunter showcasing his versatility on both offense and defense for Colorado, while Jeanty drew comparisons to Barry Sanders and led Boise State to the College Football Playoff.
In the end, Hunter prevailed with a remarkable season, becoming the first full-time defender to win the Heisman since Michigan’s Charles Woodson. Hunter’s exceptional performance on both offense and defense set him apart from other two-way stars, making him a standout player in college football for the 2024 season.
He achieved 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns as a top receiver, while also contributing 32 tackles, 11 deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble as a defensive back.
