Following the 32-25 win over the Jaguars on Sunday, Aaron Rodgers specifically commended the Jets’ offensive line.
“I want to say one more time, the offensive line had an outstanding game, and I had all day to throw,” Rodgers said. “Big shout out to the big boys. I’m going to love them up on the bus.”
Although the focus was on the explosive performance by Rodgers and Davante Adams in the second half, Rodgers’s acknowledgment of the offensive line’s performance was valid.
The line indeed provided excellent protection for Rodgers throughout the game.
Despite facing a strong Jaguars defense, Rodgers only encountered six pressures and was sacked once in the game.
In a challenging season for the Jets, the offensive line has been a bright spot.
Former general manager Joe Douglas struggled to solidify the offensive line during his tenure, but it seems he got it right in his final attempt, potentially leaving a lasting impact on the Jets.
Four offensive linemen are set to return next season, with one free agent also possibly coming back.
Left tackle Olu Fashanu, left guard John Simpson, center Joe Tippmann, and right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker are all under contract for the next year.
Although right tackle Morgan Moses is a free agent, there is a chance he could re-sign with the team.
The Jets have promising young players in Fashanu (22), Tippmann (23), and Vera-Tucker (25), providing a solid foundation for the team moving forward.
Simpson, at 27 years old, is not significantly older than the other linemen.
Continuity has been key for the Jets this season. Unlike the previous year with 13 different offensive line combinations, they have maintained consistency with just four combinations in the current season.
Simpson and Tippmann have started every game this season.
Although they lost left tackle Tyron Smith to injury, Fashanu has proven to be a worthy replacement for the veteran player.
Douglas made significant moves in the offseason to strengthen the offensive line, which have paid off with impressive performances from Simpson, Smith, and Moses, along with the addition of Fashanu with the No. 11 overall pick.
While Smith fell short of expectations, the other acquisitions have bolstered the offensive line effectively.
Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich praised the front office’s efforts in assembling a strong roster, emphasizing the importance of cohesion and consistency within the offensive line for championship-level success.
With Fashanu showing promise as a cornerstone player for the team, the Jets appear to be on the right track with their offensive line.
Fashanu played a crucial role in Rodgers’ connection with Adams for a 71-yard touchdown, showcasing his impact as a rookie in the team.
His teammates have recognized Fashanu’s talent and dedication, applauding his contributions to the team.
“He’s a stud,” Simpson said of Fashanu. “He’s balling right now. They drafted him in the first round to do exactly what he’s doing. He’s a guy who came in from Day 1, put his head down and went to work. He didn’t really complain, never hear him complaining. He’s a guy that is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. That’s all you can ask from a guy like that, for sure.”
