The Jumpman Invitational will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC. This event features the women’s and men’s teams from Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, and North Carolina. This is the third year of the event.
In the women’s games, No. 10 Oklahoma (9-1) will face No. 20 Michigan (9-1) on Tuesday and No. 19 North Carolina (10-2) will play Florida (4-7) on Wednesday. These matchups not only showcase ranked teams in action but also highlight some of the nation’s most promising freshmen, especially those playing for Michigan and Florida.
Fresh-Faced Michigan vs. Veteran Oklahoma
Michigan has started three freshmen players this season with impressive results. Despite their youth, the Wolverines have shown fearlessness on the court, demonstrated by their close game against defending national champion South Carolina. Led by guard Syla Swords, Michigan’s freshmen players are making a significant impact on the team.
Syla Swords and Olivia Olson have been standout performers for Michigan. Swords averages 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Olson leads the team in scoring with 16.9 points per game and maintains a 50% shooting percentage.
Mila Holloway is another impactful freshman for Michigan, contributing to the team’s success. The young Wolverines will face a tough challenge against Oklahoma, who boast a more experienced roster.
North Carolina’s Experience vs. Florida’s Youth
Florida relies heavily on its young players, especially freshman guard Liv McGill. Despite their youthful lineup, Florida has players like Liv McGill and Me’Arah O’Neal who show great potential and talent on the court.
Liv McGill has been a standout player for Florida, averaging over 16 points per game with impressive shooting percentages. Me’Arah O’Neal has also shown promise, particularly in a double-double performance against Hofstra.
The Gators will have to face a strong defensive team in North Carolina. With a solid defensive record and recent motivation from a home loss, North Carolina will be a tough opponent for Florida.
