The Las Vegas Aces drafted Kate Martin with the 18th pick in the second round of the WNBA Draft. Martin was left unprotected for last week’s Golden State Valkyries Expansion Draft. The Valkyries picked her with the sixth overall pick. Martin is a promising young player who brings great potential to the Valkyries.

As a rookie appeared in 34 games, averaging 11.5 minutes and 2.6 points per game. Although her role as a rookie was small, Martin can be a good pickup for Golden State. As a senior at Iowa, Martin averaged 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. She also shot 50% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. So, the ability is there; she needs to get the chance to play more minutes.

Versatile Scoring

Martin’s versatility in scoring is a standout feature. She’s a well-rounded scorer, equally adept at contributing from inside and outside the arc. This adaptability allows her to thrive in various game scenarios and opens up more opportunities for her teammates. Importantly, Martin doesn’t require the ball in her hands to make a scoring impact, making her a versatile asset for the Valkyries.

Strong Defensive Presence

Martin’s defensive prowess is a key aspect of her game. She’s a fiercely competitive player with the ability to defend multiple positions on the court. Her defensive instincts and adaptability make her a valuable asset in both on-ball and help defenses, providing a strong defensive backbone for the Valkyries.

High Basketball IQ

Martin’s high basketball IQ is a significant strength. Her deep understanding of the game enables her to make intelligent decisions on both offense and defense. Her ability to read plays and react accordingly is a crucial asset for any team aiming to compete at a high level, instilling confidence in her potential impact for the Valkyries.

Rebounding and Hustle

While not necessarily known as a dominant rebounder, Martin’s energy and hustle make her effective on the boards. She’s willing to do the dirty work, whether that means boxing out, grabbing key rebounds, or diving on the floor.

Team Player

Martin understands how to contribute to the team without being the focal point. She brings unselfish play and will likely contribute to the team’s chemistry.
