In this holiday edition of Magno’s Bulging Mail Sack, I push back against boxing ignorance and share my thoughts on Usyk-Fury 2, Turki’s AI judge, Benavidez vs. Morrell, and more.
Usyk-Fury 2 Prediction
Magno.
It’s prediction time. For this Saturday’s heavyweight title fight, I see Usyk performing better and starting strong. Fury, on the other hand, may fight tighter and more respectful due to the fear and respect from their previous encounter. My prediction is Usyk by a fairly wide unanimous decision, possibly 116-112 twice and 117-113. I wouldn’t be surprised if Usyk stops Fury, though.
–Jorge
Hey Jorge.
It’s possible that Usyk will improve in the rematch, given the psychological edge he holds. Fury, however, was in control and winning until Usyk fought his way back in the first match. I lean towards Fury being able to stay focused for the full twelve rounds this time. It’s a tough call, but I predict Fury to take a close decision or potentially score an inside-the-distance win.
Turki’s Robo-Boxing Judge
Mr. Magno!
Turki Alalshikh plans to use an AI judge in the Usyk-Fury fight unofficially. Using artificial intelligence to score fights could be impractical, ripe for abuse, and corruption. It may change the way boxing is judged, but not necessarily in a fairer way.
— Jack T.
Hey Jack.
Turki’s AI judging idea seems impractical and potentially harmful to the sport. While he claims it won’t affect official decisions, the possibilities for abuse are concerning.
Benavidez vs. Morrell/Beterbiev/Bivol
Hello Magno.
Excited for the Benavidez-Morrell fight in February. Benavidez may have the edge, but Morrell is a real contender. As for facing the winner of Beterbiev-Bivol, I have doubts about Benavidez’s chances.
— Dennis G from SF
Hey Dennis.
I look forward to the Benavidez-Morrell showdown. Benavidez should win, but Morrell is a threat. Against Beterbiev/Bivol, Benavidez may have challenges. He may need to prove himself against legit light heavyweights before getting a shot at the title.
