Tommy Fury blames Darren Till completely for their fight not taking place.
The fight between Fury and the former UFC title challenger was supposed to happen at Misfits Boxing 20 in January. However, Fury decided not to fight Till anymore after Till kept mentioning using “MMA tactics” during the fight. Fury explained the reasons for canceling the fight in an interview with IFL TV in Saudi Arabia.
“I chose Darren to fight because he lacks business sense,” Fury stated. “I didn’t want to cancel the fight. Darren is who he is. I am here to fight, not to deal with someone trying to take me down or use questionable tactics.”
Fury added, “I don’t want any circus acts. If someone wants to behave like that, they will be replaced. We are looking for a bigger and better fight. Darren had his chance, and he messed it up for himself, his family, and his team. That’s what happens when you think you’re smart but you’re not.”
After leaving the UFC following a loss to Dricus du Plessis in December 2022, Till made his boxing debut against Mohammad Mutie in July. Although Till won due to an injury TKO, chaos ensued after the fight.
Till’s antics, including jokingly mentioning takedowns and kicks on Fury, led Fury to seek a bigger fight, as the only boxer to defeat Jake Paul.
Fury expressed, “Watch his first boxing match. The chaos and nonsense are not something I’m interested in. He had the opportunity for a big payday, but I’m not into that. I am here to fight, not to wrestle on the ground with Darren Till. We will find a better opponent for a bigger and better fight.”
