The Washington Mystics recently announced the hiring of Jamila Wideman as the team’s general manager and Sydney Johnson as the head coach.
Wideman, a former Stanford standout and WNBA player, brings extensive executive experience in basketball, having worked as the senior vice president of player development for the NBA.
Monumental Basketball president Michael Winger praised Wideman’s experience and vision for the franchise, stating:
“Jamila’s breadth of experience, core competencies, and passion for developing athletes make her the ideal person to lead the Mystics into a new era.”
Wideman expressed excitement about returning to the WNBA, emphasizing the importance of player voices and aspirations in building the Mystics team.
Johnson, with 25 years of experience in the game, will bring his coaching expertise to the Mystics. He most recently served as an assistant coach with the Chicago Sky and led Team USA’s 3×3 squad to silver at the 2024 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup.
