Chicago Sky star Angel Reese showcased her training regimen on Instagram on Tuesday, addressing critics who questioned her work ethic. Defying the naysayers, the former LSU standout posted a story on her account, documenting her off-season workouts.
On Christmas Eve, Angel Reese shared a photo of herself in the gym on Instagram, effectively silencing those who doubted her commitment. The former NCAA champion, who has been unfairly criticized for her work ethic, delivered a powerful message through her social media platform.
To the tune of Future’s “Too Fast,” Reese shared a story of herself using the high cable pulley machine to focus on her Latissimus Dorsi muscles. She also tagged her sports performance trainer, Tony Ponton, in the story.
Reese also addressed the unfair criticism on her podcast, sharing her experience of juggling multiple roles and not always documenting her gym sessions:
“People are like, ‘Angel, how come you don’t post basketball stuff?’ The thing is, why do I have to post in the gym? What about the other 143 women in the WNBA who don’t post they’re in the gym? I think it’s because I live a double life,” she explained.
Critics have questioned Reese’s off-court work rate, suggesting she prioritizes events over training. However, it’s important to acknowledge that individuals have different approaches to their social media presence and personal time.
Angel Reese’s selection of the right individuals for her off-court persona and image
Following her championship victory in 2023, Angel Reese became a sought-after figure for brands and agencies. Leading LSU to their first NCAA title, she became a recognizable name in the sports world.
With her name, image, and likeness valuation reaching $1.8 million, Reese had to carefully select agencies and associates. Reflecting on this period in her podcast, she discussed the importance of surrounding herself with the right people:
“Yeah. so, like, I don’t think a lot of people at bigger agencies—they have so many clients—I don’t think they’re as in tune with what’s going on, even down to approving hair and makeup artists. I remember telling agencies, like, I’m telling y’all right now, if y’all not letting Jeanine in on this like it’s dead,” she stated (12:12).
Despite numerous agencies vying for her attention during her rise to stardom, Angel Reese chose to align with Clear View Group, owned by Jeanine. Together, they have successfully crafted an image and lifestyle that resonates with Angel, leading her to endorse brands like Reebok, Airbnb, and Beats by Dre.
