Kate Martin’s trainer, Maxwell Schmarzo, took to Instagram to praise her work off the court. He shared insights into working with Kate, highlighting her dedication and hard work in her training regime.
“Someone like Kate has a massive following,” the trainer said in the video. “A lot of people look up to her. A lot of people know who she is. But just like everyone else she has goals and aspirations of achieving certain things … you’ve probably seen her in the back-to-back national championship games and the WNBA. What a lot of people don’t see is the hard work that goes into it.”
In response to her trainer’s empowering video, Kate Martin, the Golden State Valkyries player, gave a salute in the comment section of the post.
Kate Martin was selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the Dec. 6 expansion draft after one season with the Las Vegas Aces. She expressed her excitement to join the new franchise and help in their growth from the “ground up.”
Her move to the Valkyries was facilitated by coach Natalie Nakase, who was an assistant coach with the Aces while Martin was there. Their positive relationship offers the former Iowa Hawkeye captain the opportunity to play a more significant role in the WNBA.
In her rookie season with the Aces, she averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

Martin will be part of Team Laces, which also includes Kelsey Plum, Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, Alyssa Thomas, and Stefanie Dolson.
