Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has revealed that discussions are underway for a Golden Boy Promotions – Matchroom Boxing 5 vs. 5 event in 2025.
This event would see De La Hoya matching five of his top Golden Boy fighters against Eddie Hearn’s best five available fighters in a competition to determine who has the top talent.
Golden Boy-Matchroom Showdown
“We’re continuing discussions and getting ready for some big things in 2025,” said Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV about the plans for a 5 vs. 5 competition with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing next year.
Possible matchups for the 5 vs. 5 event include:
Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepedia Edgar Berlanga or Diego Pacheco vs. Bektemir Melikuziev Jai Opetaia vs Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez Ernesto Mercado vs. Oscar Duarte Galal Yafai vs. Ricardo Sandoval
De La Hoya is already gearing up for a fight between one of his fighters, Floyd Schofield Jr., and Hearn’s fighter, WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, on February 22nd in an event organized by Turki Al-Sheikh in Riyadh. Oscar is confident that Schofield will cause an upset against Stevenson in that bout.
