In the 2024 WNBA season, the Dallas Wings, who finished second in the Western Conference the previous year, had a disappointing 9-31 record.
Despite their struggles, they secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, which could potentially be UConn combo guard Paige Bueckers. The big question now is how to build a team around this talented prospect.
Heading into the free agency period, the Wings’ current roster situation and future plans are as follows:

Still room for Satou?
German power forward Satou Sabally is a key free agent for the Wings this offseason.
With Sabally possibly looking for a change of scenery, Dallas must decide whether to build around her or explore other options at the forward position.
Veteran forward Natasha Howard’s contract is also expiring, and a core designation for Sabally could impact Howard’s future with the team.
New lanes of production
If Sabally or Howard don’t return, the Wings will need to rethink their frontcourt production, possibly considering a new look at center.
The team may also look to add off-ball firepower at the guard spot to complement their ball-dominant guards.
And if Paige is not the pick?
There’s a possibility that the Wings may not select Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 pick in the draft, depending on fit and team strategy.
If another prospect like USC’s Kiki Iriafen is chosen instead, the team’s focus would shift towards enhancing backcourt production.
