When news of a new league called Unrivaled spread among WNBA fans, they were eager to know if Caitlin Clark would be participating.
It seems that Clark will not be joining Unrivaled this time, but that hasn’t diminished fans’ excitement for her potential involvement.
This was evident when social media users reacted to a video of Clark’s Indiana Fever teammate Lexie Hull having a good time with other players on the Unrivaled roster.
The video shows Hull showcasing some dance moves and interacting with Natasha Cloud and other players who are part of the full-court 3×3 league.
“This is where @CaitlinClark22 should be. Smh,” commented one remorseful user.
“When I tell you I have TEARS in my eyes,” lamented another user.
Some fans showered Hull, who plays for the Unrivaled team Rose BC, with praise:
“I love Lexie, she’s just a princess and has her own magical world going on, so cute,” said one online user.
“We live in Lexie’s world,” commented another.
Other users couldn’t help but notice the playful interaction between Cloud and Hull as Cloud pulled Hull into the camera frame:
“Natasha loves her some white meat, doesn’t she?” asked one user.
“Friendship ended with Sophie Cunningham. Now Lexie Hull is my best friend,” another user humorously wrote in a Photoshopped meme.
Caitlin Clark declines offer to play in Unrivaled’s first season
Despite Unrivaled co-founders Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart recruiting high-profile players like Sabrina Ionescu and Angel Reese, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year chose not to join the league.
In her December 2024 interview with TIME magazine, where she was named Athlete of the Year, Clark explained her decision not to participate in Unrivaled’s inaugural season:
“I didn’t rule out doing it in the future, but this year is just not the best for me,” Clark told TIME. “It’s going to be good for me to do my own thing and have my own space. I kind of want to just stay out of the spotlight.”
After consecutive appearances in the NCAA Finals and helping the Indiana Fever in a playoff run, Clark has opted to take a break and stay away from public attention for a while. Her devoted fans will hold on to her statement about not ruling out a future appearance in Unrivaled.
