Final Fantasy XIV has started a free login campaign as of yesterday (Jan. 9), with any existing FFXIV players able to rejoin and enjoy the game for a limited time.
Starting today, players who have previously purchased and registered FFXIV, but have been inactive for at least 30 days (as in, not paid up), can log in for free for four days. The four-day period begins from the day players log in until midnight (at GMT) of the fourth day.
This means you can enjoy a maximum of 96 free hours in FFXIV between Thursday, Jan. 9 and Feb. 6. The campaign is set to end on February 6, 2025, at 14:59 GMT.

FFXIV Free Login Campaign 2025
The Free Login Campaign is an excellent opportunity to rejoin FFXIV if you’ve been away. The game’s annual New Year-themed event, Heavensturn, started on Dec. 31, 2025, and will continue until Jan. 16. Additionally, the game has recently introduced new content such as all the features from the 7.1 patch, Inconceivably Further Hildebrand Adventures, the new Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) high-difficulty 24-man raid, and more.

Internally, this campaign is likely Square Enix’s strategy to increase active players and subscriber numbers before a potentially disappointing end to the 2024-2025 financial year. The latest FFXIV expansion, Dawntrail, received mixed reviews and unofficial player counts indicate that many have left the game.
With plenty of content remaining in the Dawntrail expansion for the next 18 months, and more than two months until the next major patch release date, FFXIV aims to maintain player interest. The free login campaign is a guaranteed way to entice players back into the game and the world of Eorzea.
